Hey readers,

We’re back with yet another addition. Allow us to fill you in on it: We’re building an all-season porch! That’s a porch with sliding glass doors all the way around. This one will even have a fireplace! That’s our favorite thing – we even put one on our own porch at home! We love fall evenings on the porch with a fire.  But we digress…

First things first: we needed concrete for the foundation. Here it is rolling in.

Because no project is without its surprises (remember this? and this?), we found rotted framing where the old steps were. The new steps were going in the same place, so we had to replace this area to protect it from future damage. Here’s the new framing.

Here’s the wall forms with the new concrete before:

And after:

Time to secure the anchor bolts!

Sawing the concrete (roar!!!) so we have access to the future crawl space:

And here we have protected the existing basement from dust and water.

And behind that curtain we have… our new access point!

Lots more work to be done, stay tuned for more adventures!

Peace out,
Joe

Well, folks, we’re happy to say that the anxiously awaited living room addition is done! Here are a couple of outside shots:

And the inside:

If you are just tuning in, you can see the shots of our progress here, here, and here!

Keep it real!

Hi readers!

Today’s adventure brings us back to the living room addition. We’re working on tying the old siding in with the new:

While we were hard at work adding siding to the south side of the house, John (seen in the first picture) noticed that one of the neighbors might be in trouble. The neighbor, an older gentleman, had fallen and his wife could not get him up. Luckily, this is exactly the kind of scenario that Batman and his team are highly trained for. The only problem: a ten foot high fence separated Batman’s team from the rescue effort. Ok, maybe it was only 3.5 feet (details!).

Robin (John) and the Green Hornet (Scott) grabbed two ladders, one for each side of the treacherous fence, so they could reach the victim. The rest was a standard rescue for these superheroes. At the request of the victim, no pictures were taken. This story is probably best left to the imagination anyway.

Here’s Scott back at work dry walling with Dick; all in a day’s work!

To the Batmobile!
Joe

The weather here in Geneva has finally started cooperating and we’ve been able to get a lot done on the living room addition we’ve told you so much about.  The framing and roofing is done, and now all the windows are in!

Some inside shots:

Now check out how how the new windows look from the outside:

Ah, we can almost taste the icy cold beverages that we’ll be enjoying there when this is done. When we’re invited, of course 🙂

Until next time!
Joe

We’re back with yet another update – two days in a row! Are you sick of us yet?

Well, here are some more pictures of the living room addition we’ve been working on. First we excavated the soil and then put the footing for the concrete in place:

Then the walls were poured!

Next week will will back-fill the foundation so the framing can start.

While we were digging the foundation, we realized the sewer pipe was cracked! Yipes! We repaired this while it was accessible:

Happy Fourth everyone!
Joe

We’re hard at work on a new addition in Geneva, and wanted to share some of the progress with you!

First thing’s first: we had to move a tree because it was right next to the living room, which we have every intention of expanding!

Phew! Once that was done, we had to install a support beam. Naturally, this is really hard work. Good thing we had some help from the owner’s grandson:

Thank goodness for that help! Then we were on our way to installing the beam.

Almost there:

And done!

We’re really excited about this project so we’ll keep you updated on our progress!

Keep cool!
Joe
